Great racing.
I reckon the Mt Lambie trail will be a winner. It will really improve every ones riding skills as well as give us a good cardio work out. A little work to some of the up hill corners to improve flow and I can see it becoming one of my favs. What's every one else think?
Anyway
Blue Mts rider Cillian Kennedy was a class above. Usually noted as a Down Hill rider, currently ranked 2nd in the state, Cillian's bike handling skills got him through the tight and technical sections smoothly and then he powered up the climbs, putting a big gap into the field after just 1 lap.
Trail designer/builder Dan Blowes fought off a powerfull finish by Phil Stapleton to take 2nd place with Stapleton in 3rd.
Darleen Cheney took out the womens event in front of Shannon Chugg, who was comfortably leading before taking a wrong turn in lap 2. Visiting rider, Kelly Mapleston rounded off the Womens podium.
The junior division was also hotly contested with Nathan Dick picking up first place over Brad Davis-Haliday and Jared Bott.
With the cross country finish the focus turned to Down Hill and the event centre was moved back to the Lidsdale State forest.
The new south side trail was short and fast making every pedal, bump and turn super important.
In a best of two format only 0.18 seconds separated first and second place with Luke Newcombe pipping out Matt "Skinny" Walker on one of the last runs of the day.
A slipped pedal by Portlands Dan Bender at the very bottom of the trail allowed Sydney rider Brendan Cronk to slip into 3rd place just 0.8 seconds behind Walker.
Juniors was taken out by Joel Willis with Mudgee's Jack Parkson in second and Will Roberts in third.
The next race is round #4 of the Darkness series which takes place in the Lidsdale State Forest on Tuesday night
