If you go to Mullumbimby, there's a shop I believe is called True Wheel Cycles. They are great guys, have maps of the riding areas around Byron/ Mullum, and have regular rides in the Hinterland.
There is heaps of good riding in Northern NSW, but some of its better riding will only be found with local knowledge. They have problems with some land managers, and for that reason some trails are kept secret.
There is great riding in the Nerang state forest XC, DH,.
