Waratah Track
At a Glance
Another out and back to the West of West Head Road. Not quiet as rocky or steep as Salvation Tracks but still some challenging sections and a nice view at the end.
There's parking for 2 or 3 cars opposite the start. If that's full you could resort to the car park at Elvina Track 500m up the road.
Another trail to add to any collection you're doing off West Head road, or for someone looking for a shorter out and back as it's only around 5Km one way. However, depending on where you live, a drive up to West Head Road is quiet a long way for 10Km of cycling so string it together with some of the others in the area.
When we rode it last (after rain) this was quiet a rocky trail - I'm thinking there will be some soft sand to contend with in dryer weather. The topo map shows a fork with trail heading North around 1Km from the far (West) end, however can't say we found that. What we did find was a dead end forking off 70m before where the 'official' fork is on the map. Perhaps the real fork would have been found if we weren't distracted by this red herring!
Still a nice track mind, so take a look when you're next up there.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Waratah and Elvina Out and Back. | 14Km | 320m | 320m |
An out and back ride either side of West Head road. Elvina has a killer climb from the water whereas Waratah has nice views to enjoy at the end. Stop by the aboriginal carvings at the top of Elvina or jump in the water off the wharf at the bottom to cool off. http://www.atnf.csiro.au/people/rnorris/SydneyRockArt/sites/Elvina/index... |
